TOMAHAWK – A new banner sponsored by numerous local veterans organizations honors first responders and is on display in Tomahawk.

The two-sided banner reads “We respect & support our first responders” in capital letters, with “Police – Fire – EMT – Paramedic – Telecommunicator” printed beneath.

American Legion Post 93, American Legion Auxiliary Post 93, AMVETS Post 2000, VFW Post 2687, VFW Auxiliary Post 2687, and D.A.V. Chapter 29 sponsored the banner.

Bill Burcalow of VFW Post 2687 hung the banner at Veterans Memorial Park on Thursday, Sept. 10. He said the banner will be moved occasionally and will likely appear at the Tomahawk Fire Department and the Tomahawk Police Station in the future, adding that he hopes the banner will be displayed above W. Wisconsin Ave. during Fall Ride, slated to kick off later this week and last through the weekend.

Burcalow said the idea was brought up about a month ago, and after discussing it with the other organizations, they all decided to pitch in to have the banner made.

“It’s great to support our emergency services,” Burcalow stated.
