One of the questions heading into the season was just where the offense would come from for the Tomahawk boys’ basketball team. A couple games in, it appears the Hatchets have more than a few scorers capable of stepping up on any given night to help lead the team.
In the season opener they were led by Drew Bolder and big man Connor Dichsen, as each chipped in 13 to lead the offense. In the second non-conference home opener to start the season against Wittenberg-Birnamwood, D. Bolder (15 points) was again solid and was joined by Elijah Scheffler (10) to score in double digits in a 64-52 loss to the Chargers.
“I thought that we made a lot of improvements from the first game of the season. Some points of emphasis from practice really showed that we were working on them,” stated Hatchet coach Jacob Jarvensivu. “We turned the ball over too much again and that was the story. Credit the Chargers for their helter-skelter defense and it really gave us fits trying to get into our half court offense.”
The Hatchets also got scoring from C. Dichson (9 points) and Nick Kahle (7 points) and Isaiah Stelling finished with 6 points making two-of-three field goals attempted on the night.
On Friday Tomahawk traveled to Mosinee for their first conference tilt of the season and fell by a score 69-41. Nick Kahle led the Hatchets in scoring with 9, E. Scheffler and C. Dichsen had 8 and Payton Bunce scored 7 in the loss to the Indians.
“Our boys fought hard against Mosinee. Their quickness just gave us a ton of problems,” coach Jarvensivu said. “Our schedule to start the season has been a challenge, and it doesn’t get any easier next week with Rib Lake and Medford. We need to work hard in practice to continue to get better at taking care of the basketball, which has been our biggest challenge to this point.”
Tomahawk hosts Rib Lake tonight (Tuesday) in a non-conference match up at Hatchet Fieldhouse that begins with opening tip at 7:15 p.m. Then on Friday, Dec. 13, they travel to Medford for a GNC tilt that also begins at 7:15 p.m.
