Evonna Fisher, age 92, of Tripoli, WI, passed away on Thursday, Nov. 7, 2019,at Marshfield Medical Center, surrounded by her loving family after suffering a stroke. She was born Evonna Madalyn Allain on Feb. 5, 1927, to Joseph and Alma (Foltz) Allain of Unity, WI. Evonna graduated from Unity High School in 1944. After high school, she furthered her education in Minneapolis, which led to her employment at Western Union as a teletypist. She was married on June 20, 1946, to Donald “Dick” Fisher of Spencer, WI, where they operated a dairy farm. In 1955, they relocated to Pier Willow, north of Tripoli, where they started a mink ranch and later a logging business. Evonna oversaw the accounting and payroll aspects of both businesses. She took the most pleasure in her role as a homemaker and mom, raising five children.
Evonna was an integral part of her community. She and Dick were one of 13 families to petition the Diocese of Superior for a mission church to be built in Pier Willow to service not only the families living there, but also the hunters, fishermen, and vacationers that visited the area. Evonna remained an active member of St. Francis of Assisi Church until her passing. Evonna was known as a positive, warm, and outgoing person who was socially active up until her death. She loved to cook big meals for her family and friends and always welcomed anyone who stopped in with a cup of coffee and a snack. She and Dick enjoyed entertaining and oftentimes would have impromptu dances in their living room, pushing back the furniture and kicking up their heels. Evonna was an avid reader and spent much of her time keeping up with world events, politics in particular. For many summers, one of her favorite activities was to pick wild raspberries with her children and relative, Joannie Dommisse, which resulted in many delicious pies and jams. In her younger years, she was an excellent seamstress and enjoyed making hand tied quilts. She always looked forward to family gatherings and spent much of her time with her grandchildren when they were young, and as a result, they spent much of their time with her as they grew older. She loved to follow her children and grandchildren in their school activities, especially basketball and volleyball, and traveled extensively to do so.
Survivors include her Children, Allain Paige (Alan) Heikkinen, Gregory (Dianne) Fisher, Bradley Fisher, Charisse (Gary) Karsteadt, and Deonn (Chris) Graeber-Schultz; Her Grandchildren, Cade, Maryk, Alysse, Julie, Eve, Andy, Jessica, Kyle, Reid, Cale, Alexus, and Sierra. Evonna is further survived by her 12 Great-Grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her loving Husband, Dick; her Sisters, Virginia (Heiden), Margie (Wilcott), and Kathy (Kline); her Brothers, Donald Allain, and Laurell Allain.
Funeral Services for Evonna Fisher will be held on Saturday, Nov. 16, 2019, at 11 a.m. at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church in Pier Willow. Deacon David Bablick will officiate. The family will receive friends for Visitation on Friday, Nov. 15, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Generations Funeral Home in Tomahawk. Visitation continues on Saturday, Nov. 16, at the church in Pier Willow from 10 a.m. until the time of Services at 11 a.m. Burial will take place following services at St. Francis Cemetery.
