RHINELANDER – A snapshot of life on the Nicolet College Campus from 25 years ago will see the light of day for the first time in a quarter century when the college will open a time capsule that was buried on campus back when gas sold for about $1 a gallon.
The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 12, in the Northwoods Center on the Nicolet Campus, 5351 College Dr., Rhinelander.
The list of items in the capsule is apparently being kept under wraps until the actual event, but it is said to contain “more than a hundred” items from back when Nicolet was celebrating its 25th anniversary.
Interestingly, the capsule will be opened 25 years to the exact day it was buried back in 1994. Since then, it has been sitting underground between what is now the Red Oak Center and the White Pine Center.
Nicolet College Theatre Director Jim Nuttall will emcee a short ceremony during the event, which will feature all of the items being made available for public viewing.
Free refreshments will be served.
Anyone who attended Nicolet as a student, along with current and former staff and board members, are encouraged to attend.
