Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Oct. 1, 2024

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, Oct. 1:

On 09-23-24 the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a party reporting that they thought they say a person lying on the side of the road on Hillside Dr. near Wendorf Dr. in the Town of Merrill. This person was believed to be the victim of a hit and run crash. Deputies from the Sheriff’s Office, along with officers from MPD, responded to the area to investigate. It was learned that the victim, a Merrill woman, 50, was riding on the back of a motorcycle when she fell off the bike. The driver of the motorcycle, a Merrill man, 54, made arrangements for a private party to take the injured woman to the hospital. The man told the woman to say that she was the victim of a hit and run crash. After interviewing the woman, deputies located the man and took him in to custody. He was transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked for second degree recklessly endangering safety, hit and run with great bodily harm and two counts of resisting and obstructing.  

On 09/26/2024 the Sheriff’s Office received a driving complaint of a vehicle traveling N/B on USH 51 near the 205 mile marker in the Town of Scott. It was reported that the vehicle was being operated all over the road and driving erratically. A deputy located the vehicle as it exited USH 51 at CTH K in the Town of Merrill. Based on the complaint received and the deputy’s observations, he conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle. In making contact with the driver, a Wausau woman, 25, the deputy noticed signs of impairment. The driver was asked to perform sobriety tests, which she agreed to do. As a result of those tests, she was placed under arrest for a first offense of OWI. A police K9 from the Merrill PD was also called to the scene and did a search of the exterior of the car, resulting in a positive alert. During a subsequent search of the inside of the vehicle, the deputy located marijuana. The driver was booked for that, along with a probation hold. The driver also had an outstanding warrant for her arrest.

Deputies conducted 37 traffic stops and 31 security checks.

Deputies responded to four car vs. deer crashes and two car vs. bear crashes.

Driving complaints: 18.  

The 911 Center took three hang-up calls and seven nuisance calls.
