Little Rice Fire Department to host ‘Fired Up for Safety: Family Awareness Day’ events

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOWN OF LITTLE RICE – In recognition of Fire Prevention Month, the Little Rice Fire Department is inviting the public to a pair of events aiming to promote fire safety awareness and offer families an opportunity to learn more about the services provided by the department.

The “Fired Up for Safety: Family Awareness Day” events will be held at the former Willow Region Fire House, 5086 Willow Rd., Tripoli, on Saturday, Oct. 12; and the Little Rice Fire Station, 3737 County Rd. Y, Tomahawk, on Saturday, Oct. 19, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. each day.

The department said the events will feature hands-on activities for all ages, including:

  • Fire safety training: Learn how to properly use a fire extinguisher with hands-on demonstrations and practice using a fire extinguisher on a controlled fire.
  • Special rescue equipment display: See the fire department’s specialized rescue units, including its boat, off-road vehicle and ice rescue equipment.
  • Fire equipment display: Explore fire trucks and equipment and take photos with the crew.
  • EMS training: Practice step-by-step CPR on practice mannequins, learn how to administer Narcan and the Heimlich maneuver and get a free blood pressure reading.
  • Family-friendly fun: Cookies, coffee and water will be provided by the fire department’s canteen and rehab unit.
  • Life Link Medical Helicopter (pending): A potential helicopter landing at 10:30 a.m., offering attendees a close-up look at emergency air-medical transportation.

The events are open to community members of all ages.

“We encourage families, children, adults and seniors to participate in this educational day,” the department stated. “Applications for various volunteer roles within the fire department and EMS services will be available on-site. Let’s work together to enhance our community’s safety and commemorate Fire Prevention Month in a fun and informative way.”
