John F. Stelling Sr., age 78, of Tomahawk, passed away at his home on Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024. John was born in Marshfield, Wis., on Sept. 13, 1946, to the late Herbert and Gloria (Schulz) Stelling. He was married to Beverly Hermanson on Sept. 27, 1969; she survives.
John was a 1964 graduate of Tomahawk High School. He attended the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire for a short time before enlisting in the United States Air Force. He was honorably discharged in 1969. In 1977, he and his family moved to Alaska to pursue his career with Arco Oil & Gas, a company which also took him to Washington State and Texas. After retirement, John returned to Wisconsin, where he worked with the State of Wisconsin as buildings and grounds superintendent for 20 years.
Survivors include his wife of nearly 55 years, Beverly Stelling, of Tomahawk; his sons, John (Amanda) Stelling, Jr., of Tomahawk, James Stelling of Alaska, and Joshua (Kayla) Stelling, of Tomahawk. He is further survived by his grandchildren, Aiden, Isaiah, Jacob, Jeriah, Jasper, Brock, and Jaxon.
John was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert and Gloria.
