Elaine M. Koth

Elaine M. Koth, age 85, a lifelong resident of Tomahawk, was called to her heavenly home the early morning of Sunday, Sept. 15, 2024. Elaine was born on Jan. 1, 1939, in Tomahawk, to the late Maximilian “Max” and Martha (Goulee) Hufschmid. She was married to Floyd “Fuddy” Koth on June 29, 1957; he survives.

Elaine was a 1957 graduate of Tomahawk High School. She had been employed at various jobs throughout her life, the last one being a clerk at Dale’s Discount. After retirement, Elaine helped her daughter, Kim, at Precious Years Daycare where she was affectionately known as “Grandma E” by all the kids. She was especially loved by all the babies she held and they loved her in return. Elaine was a faithful member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church. She was an active member of the Tomahawk Historical Society, sharing her wealth of knowledge about Tomahawk. Elaine had two books published, Souvenir Views of Tomahawk, Wisconsin and The Story of Tomahawk’s Saloons, Bootlegging, Taverns and Bars. She could be seen around town selling these books from the trunk of her car. In 2023, she proudly received the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Tomahawk Chamber of Commerce.

Elaine enjoyed watching the birds, reading, sewing plastic canvas, working puzzles, and researching the family’s genealogy. She loved playing any kind of cards and was a member of the Canasta Card Club since 1996. Above all, Elaine cherished time spent with her family. Her granddaughters were her pride and joy.

Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Fuddy Koth; her daughter, Kim (Dale) Ernst, of Tomahawk; and her granddaughters, Courtney (Ryan) Clark, of Grafton, Wis., and Alexa (Daniel) Woods, of Charlotte, N.C. Elaine is further survived by many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Max and Martha; and her brothers, Donald, Richard, and David.
