Lincoln County’s Chris Schotz featured in Uniquely Wisconsin series

For the Tomahawk Leader

LINCOLN COUNTY – A Lincoln County resident has been featured in a series highlighting Wisconsin’s counties.

A release from Uniquely Wisconsin said Chris Schotz’s roots run deep when it comes to Lincoln County and the county’s exceptional trail system.

“My dad, Herb Schotz, was a science educator and a school forest director, and since 1974 was one of the founders of the Ice Age Trail,” Chris said. “He knew the science behind it, and he knew the topography and landscape here in Lincoln County. His work helped our county’s Northwood Chapter be a leader in creating one of most noteworthy sections of the Ice Age Trail.”

Chris’ story, and Lincoln County, is the focus of a new Uniquely Wisconsin program. Coverage of his story includes a two-part broadcast documentary, a streaming docuseries, social and digital stories and an appearance on “The Cabin” podcast.

“From Vision to Reality: The Impact of Chris Schotz on Lincoln County Trails” was released on YouTube and all Discover Wisconsin streaming platforms on Tuesday, Sept. 17.

“Built upon generations of rich storytelling from Discover Wisconsin, the Emmy-award winning Uniquely Wisconsin brand highlights the stories of the people, the culture and the history of our state, sprinkled in with a bit of economic development and tourism,” the release stated.

“The story of Chris Schotz is really what Wisconsin is about: folks working together to make a large impact on their communities and ultimately all of our state,” said Wisconsin Counties Association President and CEO Mark D. O’Connell. “We are excited to continue to be a part of the Uniquely Wisconsin brand and share stories like Chris’s and the entire community of Lincoln County.”

Current counties sharing their Uniquely Wisconsin stories in Season Three, which will be released through Dec. 2024, include Ashland, Calumet, Jefferson, Lincoln and Oconto. Season One and Two Counties included Adams, Washington, Marathon, Portage, Sauk, Monroe, Sheboygan and Rock.
