ONEIDA COUNTY – The Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Oneida County is offering an informational workshop for people with diabetes.
There are more than 406,000 people in Wisconsin living with diabetes, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).
A release from the ADRC said a diabetes diagnosis “brings big changes, and it is important to find solutions that work for you.”
“People with diabetes or pre-diabetes can improve their health by joining a Healthy Living with Diabetes workshop sponsored by the ADRC of Oneida County,” the release stated. “The program has been researched and proven that participants have a 53% reduction in emergency department visits.”
ADRC said that in six weekly sessions, Healthy Living with Diabetes gives participants strategies for managing diabetes, including techniques to communicate with family, friends, and health professionals; practicing healthy eating and nutrition; relaxation techniques; exercise for fitness and fun; coping with stress and depression; goal setting; and problem solving.
“In just six weeks, you can learn to take charge of your health and get back to doing the things that matter to you,” the ADRC stated.
The Healthy Living with Diabetes program will be held at the ADRC, 100 W. Keenan St., Rhinelander, on Mondays from Sept. 23 through Nov. 6. Class will not be held on Oct. 28.
There is a suggested donation of $20.00 for the workshop.
