TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Area Historical Society’s “Shoe Drive” fundraiser will continue for the next several weeks.
As part of the Shoe Drive, which began in May, gently-worn and new footwear in good condition, such as sneakers, boots, sandals, crocs and slippers, are collected via donations and sent those in need in Third World countries, with the Florida-based company coordinating the delivery paying the Historical Society for the shoes.
All funds raised will go towards the Historical Society’s Antique Print Shop and Tomahawk Boat Museum building project. The new museum will be built behind the organization’s Old Kindergarten Museum on E. Washington Ave.
On Thursday, Aug. 29, there was a partial pickup of 101 bags of shoes. The truck is set to return to collect the remaining shoes within the next few weeks. In the meantime, the Historical Society is continuing to collect shoes at Trig’s, located at 662 N. 4th St. in Tomahawk.
The Historical Society said the community’s response has been “overwhelming and greatly appreciated,” noting that nearly 4,500 pairs of shoes have been collected.
