Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Sept. 9, 2024

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office on Monday, Sept. 9:

On 09/02/24 deputies were sent to the area of CTH G and Prairie River Ave. in the Town of Merrill for a reported two-vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, deputies found that of the two vehicles, one party had received injuries. It was reported that vehicle one was traveling E/B on CTH G, the other (vehicle two) was S/B on Prairie River Ave. The driver of vehicle two claimed he stopped at the stop sign but did not see E/B vehicle one. The E/B driver said the S/B vehicle two came out of nowhere. As of this time, the crash is still under investigation, and citations will be issued.

On 09/06/2024 deputies were dispatched to the area of CTH X and CTH C in the Township of Schley for a reported motor vehicle crash with injuries. Upon arrival, deputies learned that one car had been traveling N/B on CTH X. The driver reported after he came to the intersection, he did not see the second vehicle, which was traveling E/B on CTH C. As a result of the subsequent crash, three parties were injured and transported to local hospitals. The driver of the vehicle that had been N/B on CTH X will be cited for failure to yield right of way.

On 09/07/2024 a deputy on patrol located a vehicle stopped in the lane of traffic on CTH Q and CTH K in the Town of Scott. Upon investigating, the deputy found the driver, a Merrill man, 43, asleep behind the wheel. The deputy made several attempts to wake the driver, and when he did, he noticed signs of impairment. The driver was placed through a series of sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for a second offense of OWI. The driver was later turned over to Lincoln County Corrections.

On 09/07/2024 deputies were alerted to a wrong-way driver on USH 51. It was reported that there was a vehicle seen traveling S/B on the N/B lanes of traffic on USH 51 near mile marker 222 in the Town of Birch. Deputies did locate the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop on it, making contact with the driver, a Manitowoc woman, 77. The driver was did not seem to be impaired, but as a precaution, a relative was contacted to come and pick the woman up, and the vehicle was left on the side of the road. A citation was issued for operating on the wrong side of the highway.

Deputies conducted 67 traffic stops and 20 security checks.

Deputies responded to eight car vs. deer crashes and one car vs. bear.

Driving complaints: Nine.                             

The 911 Center took three hang-up calls and eight nuisance calls.
