Knox Creek Heritage Center to host ‘A Country Afternoon’

BRANTWOOD – A local organization dedicated to preserving the heritage of the pioneers that settled the Northwoods will host one of its annual fundraisers this month.

“A Country Afternoon” will be held at the Knox Creek Heritage Center (KCHC), N4517 W. Knox Rd., Brantwood, on Saturday, Sept. 14.

The KCHC grounds will open at 11 a.m., with beer and other refreshments available and lunch served at 12 p.m. Finnish bread and pulla, a cardamom braid bread, will be available for purchase. The KCHC gift shop will be open, with numerous local authors’ books available. A homemade pie auction will be held, and music will be provided by Randy “Rupert” Jones.

The event will also feature KCHC’s first chili cook-off. A panel of judges will decide the best chili, and the winner will be awarded a $100.00 gift card.

KCHC, now in its 29th year of existence, holds four annual fundraisers, including A Country Afternoon. The group’s new pavilion has been built and used at several previous events, but there are still some needed finishing touches.

“Any donation, either time or monetarily, will help to make these dreams come true,” a release from KCHC said. “Any donation will be greatly appreciated. Some of the buildings – we have nine – are older than 100 years and need a little TLC.”

The organization noted that it has ordered materials to perform some necessary repairs on the Main House.

“We hope to see you all there for a great ‘Country Afternoon’ and a little bit of our local history,” KCHC stated. “Good times can be had by all.”
