Elizabeth ‘Betty’ Zehner

Elizabeth “Betty” Zehner, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully at home with her family by her side on Friday, Aug. 16, 2024.

Betty was born on Oct. 22, 1935 to Leo and Ruth Danforth in Exeland, Wis. She married Robert (Bob) Zehner in Ladysmith, Wis., on July 2, 1955. Betty and Bob moved to Tomahawk for Bob’s job at the paper mill where they raised their four sons together until Bob tragically passed at the young age of 49. Betty worked at the hospital in town while she made heartfelt and valuable friendships in the community.

Betty was an avid baker. She loved spending time in the kitchen baking for friends and family. She liked doing puzzles, word games, playing cards when friends and family would visit and shopping the QVC channel. She enjoyed going to Wednesday night bingo and taking trips to the casino.

Betty survived by her sons, David ‘Zip’ Zehner, Steven ‘Hap’ (Susan) Zehner, Jeffery ‘Z’ (Penny) Zehner and Gary ‘Gomez’ (Dana) Zehner, her sister Audrey Thompson, sisters-in-law, Marge Newville and Carol Aitken, brother-in-law, Chuck (Marion) Zehner, 12 grandchildren, Nicky Zehner, Rachael (Jevin) Budzynski, Zoie (Derek) Mohr, Zach Zehner, Zeke Zehner, Kersten Zehner, Alyssa Zehner, Zander Zehner, Kaylynn (Josh) Licona, Jack (Sondra) Koenig, Jesse Westfall and Logan Dums. Betty has 11 great-grandchildren with one on the way. She is further survived by special friends of the family, Julie, Chris and Lucy Winger and Dale Bohnert.

Betty was preceded in death by the love of her life Bob, her parents Leo and Ruth, her sisters Eula Fisher, Frances Karabetsas and Doris Shaw, as well as many great friends, including Fran von Schrader, with whom she spent many of her last years enjoying each other’s company.
