Cynthia “Cindy” J. Dampier, age 67, of Merrill, Wis., passed away on Saturday, May 25, 2024, at Aspirus Wausau Hospital after a long, hard-fought battle with cancer. Cindy was born on March 10, 1957, in Milwaukee, Wis., to Duane and Lois (Strahota) Means. She was first married to the father of her three daughters, Frank LaCount, in February of 1974. She later married Pete Dampier on March 18, 2005; he passed away on April 6, 2020.
Cindy worked as head housekeeper at AmericInn in Janesville, Wis., for many years. From 1989 to 1998, she lived in the Pier-Willow area where she was employed as a bartender at Boyle’s Resort. In 2006, Pete and Cindy moved to Pittsville, Wis., living many happy years together with their dogs, Ruger and Gus. After Pete’s passing, Cindy moved to Merrill. She loved going crafting, garage sales, and antiquing with her girls. Above all, she cherished time spent with her family.
Survivors include her mother, Lois Means, of Necedah, Wis.; her daughters, Jennifier (Jim) Moore, of Merrill, Angela (Mike) Nelson, of Brantwood, Wis., and Kathleen (Michele) LaCount, of Rockford, Ill.; her stepson, Alex Dampier, of Pittsville, Wis.; her sisters, Rachel Means, of Milton, Wis., and Victoria Means, of Necedah; her brother, Randy Means, also of Necedah; her nieces, Theresa (Dale) Rice, of Tripoli, Wis.,, and Kelly Rice, of Wakefield, Mich.; and her former husband, Frank LaCount, of Janesville. Cindy is further survived by her grandchildren, Brooklyn, Lindsey, Niklas, Bailey, Johnathan, Ella, Reed, C.J., Kayla, and Jenna; in addition to several step-grandchildren and her nieces and nephews.
Cindy was preceded in death by her father, Duane Means; her great-niece, Megan Rice; and her great-nephew, Damian Rice.
Private family graveside services will take place at Spirit-Hillcrest Cemetery in the Town of Spirit. A celebration of life gathering will be held on Saturday, July 6, 2024, at 5213 Willow Rd. in Tripoli beginning at 3 p.m. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
