Joseph “Dilly” E. Pickett, age 73, of Tomahawk, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 29, 2024, at Aspirus Rhinelander Hospital. Joe was born in Tomahawk on June 7, 1950, to the late Peter and Gianetta (Bebeau) Pickett. He was married to Joan Stevenson on April 18, 1979; she survives.
Joe was a 1968 graduate of Tomahawk High School. After high school, he entered the workforce where he began employment at the telephone company and worked in construction for some time. He spent many years with the Tomahawk Mill, retiring in 2011. Joe was a talented athlete who participated in many sports. He was a member of various tavern leagues playing baseball, dart ball, pool, horseshoes, and bowling league. Joe was an alumni of the Kwahamot Water Ski Club where he excelled in barefoot skiing, jumping, competing in various competitions, and later was the boat driver for the shows. He was an avid golfer who enjoyed playing local leagues and traveling to various courses including those in Myrtle Beach and Florida. Joe spent his winters ice fishing and his summers boating up the Somo and Willow Flowage, camping, and even active in several regattas. He was an outdoorsman who also loved bow hunting and bird hunting. Joe and Joannie traveled extensively throughout the United States and Caribbean. He was a good-hearted, caring man who cherished his family and always had time to lend a helping hand wherever needed.
Survivors include his wife of over 44 years, Joannie; his daughters, Angie (Joe), Lisa (Mike), and Jessica; his brothers, Ken (Sherri) and John (Dorleen); and his sister, Judy (Gary). He is further survived by his grandchildren, Bo (Katie), Luke (Anna), and Matthew; and his great-grandchildren, Aurora, Silas, and Kayden. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Gianetta; his brothers, Jim and Richard; his sisters, MaryAnn and Kathy; and his nephew, Jim Jr.
