Tomahawk golfers compete in Rhinelander, Eagle River with end of season on horizon

RHINELANDER – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team traveled to Rhinelander and Eagle River ahead of the final week of the season.

Rhinelander

The Hatchets took part in a GNC meet in Rhinelander on Monday, May 6 and came away with a sixth-place team finish, scoring 365. Lakeland was the top team with a score of 325, followed by Mosinee (330), Northland Pines (342), Rhinelander (343) and Medford (345).

Sawyer Hanna’s score of 82 was good for 10th place on the day. Other Hatchet scorers included Austin Lamer (89), Caiden Reichelt (95), Carson Childers (99) and Brayden Lamer (100).

Coach Garth Gerstenberger noted that Hanna’s short game was “really good” in Rhinelander.

Northland Pines

On Friday, May 10, the Tomahawk golfers traveled to Eagle River for a meet hosted by Northland Pines.

The Hatchets placed 6th with a score of 368, behind Lakeland (305), Mosinee (317), Rhinelander (325), Medford (336), Northland Pines (337) and Antigo (381).

With a score of 87, Hanna was Tomahawk’s top golfer, followed by Reichelt (89), Owen Dickrell (95), Childers (97) and Lamer (105).

“(Reichelt) shot his first round in the 80s today,” Gerstenberger said. “He had eight pars and was hitting the ball really well.

JV

The JV Hatchets also competed in Rhinelander last Monday, where they placed 5th with a score of 212. Lakeland (184) was the top JV team, followed by Medford (191), Mosinee (195) and Rhinelander (200). Northland Pines, scoring 218, finished in 6th.

Noah Pearson ended the day with a score of 44. Other Hatchet scorers included Ryan Montag (53), Sophia Kiser (57), Dane Dekiep (58) and Lydia Ziert (64).

This week’s action

The Hatchets are scheduled to start the final week of the season in Mosinee on Tuesday, May 14.

A meet in Antigo originally slated for Tuesday, May 7 was rescheduled for Wednesday, May 15.

On Thursday, May 16, the Tomahawk golfers will head to Lakeland.
