Golf: Hatchets compete in Marathon invitational

JV squad travels to Medford, Rhinelander

MARATHON – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team competed in an invitational in Marathon, while the JV team took part in meets in Medford and Rhinelander.

The Tomahawk golfers traveled to Marathon for an invitational on Monday, April 29 and finished in fifth place out of 16 teams.

The Hatchets ended the day with a team score of 350, behind Medford (337), Rhinelander (345), Marathon (348) and Prentice (349).

Coach Garth Gerstenberger noted Tomahawk was only two shots from a third-place finish.

Austin Lamer, with a pair of birdies, was the Hatchets’ top shooter at 80 strokes and finished in second place overall. Owen Dickrell (88), Sawyer Hanna (91), Caiden Reichelt (91) and Carson Childers (96) rounded out the Hatchet scorers.

“Overall, we hit the ball better than we scored today,” Gerstenberger stated.

JV

The JV Hatchets competed in a GNC meet in Medford on Tuesday and came in 4th place with a score of 178, the team’s best finish of the season.

Brayden Lamer was Tomahawk’s top shooter on the day with a score of 40, followed by Noah Pearson (42), Ryan Montag (48), Dane Dekiep (48), Lydia Ziert (53) and Sophia Kiser (59).

On Friday, the JV Hatchets competed in Rhinelander and finished in sixth place with a team score of 234.

Hatchet scorers: Pearson (46), Montag (58), Dekiep (65), Kiser (65) and Owen Oates (75).

This week’s action

The Tomahawk golfers are slated to travel to Bass Lake Country Club north of Antigo for a GNC meet on Tuesday, May 7.

On Friday, May 10, the Hatchets will head to Eagle River Golf Course for a GNC meet.
