Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: April 29, 2024

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, April 29:

On 04/22/2024 deputies were dispatched to an address on Hillside Dr. in the Township of Merrill for a reported burglary in progress. The reporting party, a Merrill man, 49, reported seeing two males exit a locked building on the property and run away through a cornfield. One subject was described as a male with gray hair, and the other was a male with a tan jacket. It was reported that the two subjects broke into a locked structure, and while in the building, they stole a set of Wisconsin license plates off of a vehicle kept inside. Deputies checked with several neighbors in the area and one reported seeing a suspicious ‘90s model blue Chevy Blazer with two male occupants in the area. The license plate that was stolen is a Wisconsin registration plate AXC7430.

On 04/22/2024 deputies were dispatched to the area of USH 51 and USH 8 in the Town of Bradley for a reported theft of ATV tires. The R/P, a Hazelhurst man, 18, reported that a week before this date, his ATV fell off of his trailer and he left the vehicle sit in the ditch until he could return to retrieve it. The R/P reported that when he returned on the date of the call to retrieve his ATV, he found that the tires were missing. Several days later, the R/P reported that he located his tires on Facebook Market Place. The investigating deputy made contact with the seller, a Merrill man, 45, who admitted to taking the tires. He stated he thought the vehicle was abandoned.  

On 04/27/2024 a deputy on patrol made a traffic stop for a speeding violation. Upon making contact with the driver, a Tomahawk man, 19, the deputy noticed signs of impairment, by both illegal drugs and alcohol. The driver agreed to complete SFSTs, but refused a preliminary breath test. As a result, the driver was taken into custody for OWI. The driver was also cited for speeding and underage alcohol violation, 3rd offense. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail for possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. The subject was uncooperative with the deputy.

On 04/27/2024 deputies were alerted to a theft that had occurred at the Merrill Memorial Forest area on Heineman Rd. and CTH R in the Town of Schley. The R/P, a Gleason woman, 45, reported that she had parked her vehicle at the trailhead and went out on a bike ride. According to the R/P, she left her vehicle unlocked with her purse sitting on the passenger seat. While she was out on her ride, someone entered her vehicle and took her wallet from the purse. The R/P and her friends reported seeing a ‘90s model, possibly Toyota 4Runner, in the area during the bike ride. No other vehicles were seen in the area.

Deputies conducted 33 traffic stops and 40 security checks

Deputies responded to seven car vs. deer crashes.

The 911 Center took six hang-up calls and five nuisance calls.
