For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team hosted a meet and traveled to Barron and Medford last week.

Inshalla

The Hatchets kicked off last week by hosting a Great Northern Conference (GNC) meet at Inshalla Country Club in Tomahawk on Tuesday, April 23.

Tomahawk placed fifth out of seven teams with a score of 366. Lakeland (315) took first place, followed by Mosinee (338), Northland Pines (347) and Rhinelander (350). Antigo (368) and Medford (372) placed sixth and seventh, respectively.

Austin Lamer was Tomahawk’s top shooter, ending his three-birdie day with a score of 80. His sixth-place finish earned him some All-Conference points, coach Garth Gerstenberger said.

Sawyer Hanna and Caiden Reichelt each shot a 93, while Owen Dickrell and Carson Childers each finished with a score of 100.

Gerstenberger said Reichelt was “solid off the tee” and played his best round as a varsity golfer.

“The course played difficult today, due to the cold and wind,” Gerstenberger added.

Barron

The Tomahawk golfers traveled to Rolling Oaks Golf Course in Barron on Wednesday, April 24, where they placed sixth out of 14 teams with a score of 342.

Bloomer (299) finished in first place, followed by Chetek-Weyerhaeuser (311), Northwestern (322), Saint Croix Falls (330) and Ladysmith (336).

Dickrell shot a team-best 77, while Hanna ended the day with a score of 82. Brayden Lamer (91), Caiden Reichelt (92) and Carson Childers (93) rounded out the Hatchet scorers.

“We had some really nice nine-hole scores today,” Gerstenberger stated, noting that Dickrell was even on the back nine, and Hanna was two over on the front.

Lamer’s 91 was a “great score for his first-ever varsity match,” Gerstenberger added.

Medford

On Friday, April 26, the Hatchets headed to Medford’s Black River Golf Course for a GNC meet.

Tomahawk took sixth place with a team score of 375. Lakeland Union was the top team (309), with Mosinee (327), Rhinelander (339), Medford (345) and Northland Pines (357) following. Antigo (407) took seventh place.

Hanna had three birdies on his way to being the Hatchets’ top golfer, ending the day with a score of 85. Other Tomahawk scorers included Dickrell (89), Noah Pearson (99), Reichelt (102) and Childers (104).

Gerstenberger noted that Pearson played well in Medford.
