City council green lights eight special event permit applications

TOMAHAWK – Eight events are now on this year’s calendar after their special event permit applications got the green light from the City of Tomahawk Common Council yesterday.

During its meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, April 16, the council approved applications for the Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Arts and Crafts Fair, the Chamber and Big Bear Mini Golf’s Street Party, a Customer Appreciation Celebration hosted by Tomahawk Main Street Inc., the Northwoods Fall Ride Bonfire and Brat Fry, Fall Ride events in downtown Tomahawk and SARA Park, the Fall Ride Thunder Parade and the annual Venison Feed.

The permits were approved by the city’s Health and Safety Committee on Tuesday, April 9, before they were sent to the council for final review.

Arts and Crafts Fair

The Tomahawk Regional Chamber of Commerce’s Arts and Crafts Fair is slated to be held at the SARA Park Soccer Field on Wednesday, July 3.

The event will also feature food trucks and will have registration and event hours between 6 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Street Party

A Street Party, sponsored by the Chamber and Big Bear Mini Golf, is slated to be held on N. 2nd St. between W. Somo Ave. and the alley on Friday, Aug. 16, from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

The event will feature a mini golf tournament, as well as music and games in the street. The city’s open intoxicants ordinance will be waived during the event.

Customer Appreciation Celebration

Tomahawk Main Street Inc. is gearing up to hold its Customer Appreciation Celebration this summer.

The event is scheduled to take place on N. 3rd St. between W. Wisconsin Ave. and the alley on Saturday, Aug. 17, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. A cookout, music, games and a bounce house will be part of the celebration.

Bonfire and Brat Fry

The Chamber is bringing back an annual Northwoods Fall Ride kickoff event.

The Bonfire and Brat Fry will be held at the SARA Park boat landing on Thursday, Sept. 12. The bonfire will be held at dusk, and music will also be part of the event.

Main Street Fall Ride events

Main Street’s Fall Ride events are slated to begin with vendor setup on Wednesday, Sept. 11.

Vendor sales, beer and soda tents and live music will be featured over the course of the event, scheduled to take place from Thursday, Sept. 12 to Saturday, Sept. 14.

The city’s open intoxicants ordinance will be waived on Friday, Sept. 13 from 1 p.m. to midnight; and Saturday, Sept. 14 from 11 a.m. to midnight.

SARA Park Fall Ride events

Fall Ride events at SARA Park also got the thumbs up from the council last week.

The Chamber and Wa Wui Ltd. will sponsor live music and beer and soda tents from Thursday, Sept. 12 through Saturday, Sept. 14.

Thunder Parade

The annual Fall Ride Thunder Parade is scheduled for Friday, Sept. 13.

Participants will line up at the Tomahawk school complex at between 5 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. before departing for a short ride that will end on W. Wisconsin Ave.

Venison Feed

A classic Tomahawk event will once again kick off Wisconsin’s nine-day gun deer hunting season.

The Chamber’s annual Venison Feed will be held on W. Wisconsin Ave. between S. Tomahawk Ave. and Railway St. on Friday, Nov. 22.

The event will feature grilled venison burgers and beverages. The city’s open intoxicants ordinance will be waived from 11:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
