Annual Lincoln County Deer Advisory Council meeting slated for next month

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is encouraging the public to attend upcoming county-focused meetings on deer management.

A release from DNR said each county in the state has a County Deer Advisory Council that meets annually to provide input and recommendations to the DNR on deer management in its county.

“County Deer Advisory Council recommendations are based on deer metrics, county deer population objectives and public feedback,” the release stated. “Information on each county’s harvest and population metrics can be found on the Wisconsin Deer Metrics System database (www.tinyurl.com/n6hx6zj9).”

DNR said interested members of the public are encouraged to participate in the discussion at their local County Deer Advisory Council meeting.

“At these meetings, councils review county data on fawn-to-doe ratios, harvest trends, herd health, deer impacts on agriculture, forest health, vehicle collisions and hunter experience,” the release stated. “This information is reviewed annually to respond to deer harvest, winter severity and other factors that impact the upcoming deer season.”

The 2024 County Deer Advisory Council meetings will occur between Monday, April 22 and Thursday, May 2.

The Lincoln County Deer Advisory Council Meeting will be held at the Lincoln County Service Center, 801 N. Sales St., Merrill, on Thursday, May 2 at 7 p.m.

“Join the Lincoln County Deer Advisory Council meeting to be a part of the conversations on this year’s holiday hunts, extended archery seasons and antlerless deer quotas,” DNR said. “The County Deer Advisory Council will review public input and make its final recommendations for the 2024 deer hunting seasons, including recommendations on the holiday hunt, extended archery season and antlerless deer quotas for public and private land.”
