LAC DU FLAMBEAU – Alberta “Dottie” Egtvedt had her dream come true with some Milestone Senior Living residents and staff members when we took her to the casino in Lac du Flambeau.
One of Dottie’s favorite past times with her husband when traveling to Las Vegas was to go to a casino and gamble. As she got older and didn’t drive anymore, she took the Northern Tours Casino bus to gamble.
Her daughter said Dottie has been to every casino in Wisconsin and Michigan, and she has scrap books to prove it.
Dottie uses a wheelchair daily, but once we arrived at the casino, she stood up and was ready to walk (we joked to her that it was a miracle when she took a few steps). We encouraged her to remain sitting as we rolled out the red carpet for her.
Upon entering the casino, Dottie’s eyes lit up with all the flashing lights and bright colors. She didn’t miss a beat, as she was an old hand at playing the machines. Dottie won some and lost some with satisfaction.
On our way home, Dottie was explaining where certain buildings used to be, while sightseeing with a big smile, as she grew up in Arbor Vitae.
We stopped to eat at El Tarasco, which Dottie enjoyed.
On our way home, Dottie was asked how she liked the day, and her smiling response was, “I had a great day out with friends.”
