Manitowish Waters woman dies after head-on crash in Oneida County

ONEIDA COUNTY – A Manitowish Waters woman died after being involved in a head-on crash in Oneida County last week.

According to a release from the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office, on Thursday, Feb. 22, at approximately 6:08 a.m., the Sheriff’s Office responded to a call reporting a two-vehicle head-on crash on U.S. Hwy. 51, near South Blue Lake Rd. in the Town of Hazelhurst.

Upon arrival at the scene, extrication equipment was requested to free the two drivers from their vehicles, and helicopters were dispatched due to apparent injuries.

The release said initial reports from witnesses indicated that the southbound vehicle crossed over the centerline, and the northbound vehicle was unable to avoid the crash.

The driver of the southbound vehicle, identified by the Sheriff’s Office as Marisa A. Hagemann, 45, was transported by helicopter to an area medical facility, but died upon arrival.

The driver of the northbound vehicle was also transported by helicopter to an area medical facility. The other individual was not identified by the Sheriff’s Office, and their condition was not provided.

U.S. Hwy. 51 was closed while a crash reconstruction was conducted by the Wisconsin State Patrol.

The Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by the Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office, the Minocqua Fire Department, the Hazlehurst Fire Department, Oneida County Ambulances, Lifelink and Aspirus MedEvac.
