For the Tomahawk Leader
RHINELANDER – Nicolet College will offer its Private Pilot Ground School in the spring 2024 term.
In a release, Nicolet said students in the course will have the opportunity to “learn about the joys of flight, what it takes to become a pilot and the many career options in the aviation field.”
“Over 200 Wisconsin companies have ties to the state’s aerospace sector, and more than 26,000 people are employed in Wisconsin by companies that support aviation businesses and aerospace manufacturing,” Nicolet stated.
Through the course, students will be taught the fundamentals of flight required for the Federal Aviation Administration Private or Light Sport Pilot license. Nicolet said course content will include pertinent FAA regulations, principles of aerodynamics, airplane systems and performance, instruments, aeromedical and human factors, aviation weather, airspace, airport operations, charts and navigation, cross-country flying and various aviation career opportunities.
“Upon successful completion of this course and completion of an online exam-prep study course, students will have what they need to complete the FAA written knowledge test,” Nicolet stated. “This 30-hour course will be taught by local flight instructors with years of aviation experience in a variety of aircraft. Classes will be held in a combination of in-person and online, with guest speakers and tours available to expand your aviation knowledge. This course is perfect for anyone interested in pursuing flight training, exploring careers in aviation, or learning more about aviation.”
The ten-week course is scheduled from Tuesday, March 12 through Tuesday, May 14. Classes are tentatively scheduled for Tuesday nights and Saturday mornings at Nicolet, with some off-campus tours.
Ground School will be limited to 20 students.
