Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Feb. 5, 2024

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Feb. 5:

Over the week our Lincoln County 911 Center received five 911 nuisance calls/hang ups. The Lincoln County Deputies conducted 91 traffic stops with four resulting in OWI arrest. Within the county this week, there were four car vs. animal collisions.

On 02/01/2024 at approximately 07:00 Lincoln County 911 Center received a call of a two-vehicle crash in the area of CTH K and CTH Q in the Township of Scott. Upon arrival, the deputies found that a passenger car was traveling S/B on CTH Q being operated by a Merrill woman, 43. The second vehicle, a Baumgart garbage truck being operated by a Merrill man, 55, was E/B on CTH Q approaching the intersection of CTH K. The breaks on the garbage truck failed and the driver was not able to stop for a stop sign. The garbage truck then continued into the intersection and struck the S/B vehicle. One of the drivers was transported to the hospital for minor injuries while the other refused transport. Both vehicles were removed from the scene and DNR Hotline was contacted due to diesel fuel that had been spilled on the road. Nothing further at this time. The sheriff’s office was assisted by Merrill Fire and EMS.

On 02/01/2024 at approximately 08:10, Lincoln County 911 Center received a call of a vehicle with its back tire on fire. This was in the area of County Rd. K and Olivotti Lake Rd. in the Township of Merrill. Lincoln County Deputies, Merrill Fire Department and Merrill EMS responded to the scene. Tomahawk EMS was asked to stage in the area for mutual aid. Deputies made contact with the driver, a Merrill woman, 37. The driver did not sustain any injuries and the vehicle fire was extinguished. The vehicle was removed and the scene was cleared. Nothing further at this time.

On 02/03/2024 at approximately 00:40, in the area of County Rd. M and Elm Grove Rd. in the Township of Corning, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a routine traffic stop for going 81 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. The Lincoln County Deputy made contact with the driver, a Merrill man, 39. The driver showed signs of impairment and the deputy conducted field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, the driver was cited for OWI 1st and speed. The driver was released to a responsible party. Nothing further at this time.

On 02/03/2024 at approximately 17:50, in the area of Sheldon Rd. and U.S. Hwy. 8 in the Township of Bradley, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a routine traffic stop of a UTV for operating on a road closed to ATVs and UTVs. The Lincoln County Deputy made contact with the driver, a Rib Lake man, 31, and his passenger, a Cornell woman, 23. The driver showed signs of impairment and admitted to consuming alcoholic beverages. The deputy conducted field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, the driver was arrested for OWI UTV related and cited for OWI, PAC, and no seatbelt on passenger. Warnings were also given for operating on a closed road, as well as no ATV safety certificate. UTV was left on scene and tagged for 24 hours. Nothing further at this time.

On 02/03/2024 at approximately 19:00, in the area of Cain Creek Rd. and State Rd. 64 in the Township of Pine River, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a routine traffic stop of a UTV for going 76 MPH in a 55 MPH zone. As the deputy was attempting contact, the driver exited the UTV to lie on the ground, stating that he was intoxicated. The deputy conducted field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, the driver was arrested for OWI 1st. The driver was released to a responsible party and was taken to a nearby friend’s house. Nothing further at this time.

On 02/03/2024 at approximately 22:00, in the area of County Rd. A and County Rd. U in the Township of Bradley, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy conducted a routine traffic stop of a UTV for going 54 MPH in a 35 MPH zone. Deputies made contact with the driver, a Tomahawk woman, 24, and smelled an extremely strong odor of intoxicating beverages. The deputy conducted field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, the driver was arrested for UTV OWI 1st. The driver was released to a responsible party. Nothing further at this time.
