In latest round of grants, TCTS awards $37,000.00 to local nonprofits

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Community Thrift Shop (TCTS) recently awarded a round of its biannual grants to local nonprofit organizations.

TCTS, located at 328 N. 4th St., is a nonprofit itself and completely run by volunteers. The organization accepts donations of clean, lightly used clothing and other items from the community and returns 75% of its net profits to area groups.

The most recent round of grants, given out for the second half of 2023, totaled $37,000.00.

Contributions were made to the following organizations: Tomahawk Area Interfaith Volunteers (TAIV), for ride program costs; VFW Post 2687, for a kitchen exhaust system; the Salvation Army of Tomahawk’s Happy Kids Backpack Program, for food costs; American Legion baseball, for various expenses; American Legion Post 93, for its building renovation project; Christmas in July, for a trained facility dog for The Children’s Hospital; Tomahawk Community Theater, for production expenses; Tomahawk Main Street Inc., for flowers and to fix the welcome sculpture; Tomahawk Together, for additional Our Dream Park playground equipment; the Tomahawk Public Library, for its after school program for teens; and the Tomahawk Area Historical Society, for building repairs.

In all, TCTS donated $57,782.00 last year, bringing its grand total contributed since 2019 to $116,496.00.

TCTS accepts grant applications each year from May 1 through June 30, and again from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31. Applications can be picked up at TCTS, which is open Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Wednesday, from noon to 5 p.m. Applications can also be requested by emailing [email protected].
