Carol J. Halverson

Carol J. Halverson, age 77, of Tomahawk, passed away on Saturday, Jan. 6, 2024. Carol was born in Wausau, Wis., on Aug. 18, 1946, to the late Clarence and Florence (Traska) Krueger. She was married to Walt Halverson on March 4, 1967, and shared 56 beautiful years together. Walt passed away on Sept. 11, 2023.

Carol grew up and attended school in Wausau, graduating with the Class of 1964. She later attended college in Marshfield, Wis. She went on to become a respiratory therapist working in the Marshfield Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital in Tomahawk, and St. Mary’s Hospital in Rhinelander. Carol happily retired in 2011 after 46 years of service. She was a faithful and active member of Grace Lutheran Church where she was treasurer and served on the Altar Guild. Carol and Walt shared a talent for crafts having booths at the flea market in St. Germain, Wis., and locally at the Old Towne Mall. She spent many hours cross-stitching, crocheting, and knitting. Carol’s caring and selfless personality started in her younger years as she took care of her siblings while her parents were at work and carried over into her job as a physical therapist, taking great pride in her work and forming wonderful bonds with her patients, especially children. In her later years, she took care of her husband all while battling health issues of her own. When not working, Carol enjoyed spending time at the family cottage on Long Lake in the Town of Harrison. She loved spending hot summer days around the family pool, and she traveled extensively with family to Daytona Beach, Fla., Pensacola, Fla., Bar Harbor, Maine, and throughout Canada. She enjoyed visits to area casinos and in Laughlin, Nev. Above all, Carol cherished time with family and friends and will be remembered for her compassion toward all those who knew her and the countless patients she treated.

Survivors include her sons, Shawn (Shirley) Halverson, and Jason (Shannon) Halverson; her daughter-in-law, Tracy Halverson; her brothers, Glen Krueger, and Kenneth (Candy) Krueger; her sister, Debra Krueger; and her sisters-in-law, Jan (Jim) VanNorman, and Linda Halverson.
