TOMAHAWK – Efforts are underway to revitalize a downtown Tomahawk building, and financial help with the project may be on the way.

During its meeting at City Hall on Tuesday, Jan. 2, the City of Tomahawk Common Council approved a resolution giving City Clerk/Treasurer Amanda Bartz the go-ahead to apply for a grant from the Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation (WEDC) to assist in renovating and redeveloping the former Clothes Hamper Laundromat, located at 3 W. Wisconsin Ave.

Wild Rivers Group Real Estate is currently working to revamp the building to eventually serve as its office space, as well as for other potential uses. As part of the project, a pair of two-family rental units on the second floor will also be remodeled.

The city will apply for the WEDC Community Development Investment (CDI) grant program, which helps with shovel-ready projects with an emphasis on downtown community-driven efforts. Up to $250,000.00 could be awarded through the program.

If the city is awarded the grant, the city would then disburse the monies to Wild Rivers, which will provide the required funding match.

Dave Long of Wild Rivers told the council that the he anticipates the group’s investment in the project to be up to $200,000.00.
