Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Dec. 5, 2023

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Tuesday, Dec. 5:

On 11/27/2023 at approximately 07:07, deputies responded to a reported two-vehicle crash at the intersection of CTH Z and STH 107 in the Town of Corning. Upon arrival, deputies found the crash to be between a semi and a car. Investigation revealed that the operator of the car failed to stop at a stop sign on CTH Z and was struck by the semi that was being operated on STH 107. There were minor injuries reported and no one was transported by ambulance. The driver of the car received a citation for failure to stop at a stop sign.

On 11/29/2023 a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle on USH 51 near CTH V in the Town of Birch for a speeding violation. Upon making contact with the driver a Green Bay man, 49, the deputy noticed signs of impairment. As a result, the deputy asked the driver to perform some sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, the driver was arrested for a 3rd offense OWI. The driver was later booked into the Lincoln County Jail for the OWI.

On 11/30/2023 deputies responded to a reported crash with injuries on CTH J near Yanda Ave. in the Township of Birch. Upon arrival, it was found that a vehicle being operated on CTH J struck a patch of ice in the road and the driver lost control of the vehicle. The vehicle entered the ditch and rolled onto its side. Minor injuries were reported, and one person was transported by ambulance to Merrill Aspirus Hospital for treatment.

On 12/1/2023 at approximately 21:16, the Sheriff’s Office received a complaint of a possible impaired driver traveling on CTH A in the Town of Bradley. In making contact, it was discovered the driver was not impaired. Additional investigation revealed that the reporting party, a Tomahawk man, 33, was filing a false police report about the vehicle in spite of an ex-girlfriend. The man’s story changed a couple times in the course of the investigation. As a result, he was arrested for obstructing. He was then transported to the Lincoln County Jail where he was booked for the violation.

On 12/02/2023 a deputy attempted to conduct a traffic stop a vehicle for illegal license plates, and it was believed the man driving it, an Irma man, 54, had warrants for his arrest. The suspect vehicle initially stopped and the deputy was able to make brief contact with the suspect prior to him fleeing at a high rate of speed. The suspect fled south on CTH W in the Town of Pine River, eventually entering Marathon County. The suspect, once in Marathon County, fled east bound on Shady Ln. before crashing into a wooded area. Once stopped, the suspect fled into the woods on foot with two deputies pursuing. In the course of the pursuit, the two deputies fell down a 20- to 30-foot embankment, both sustaining leg injuries. Both deputies, despite their injuries, were able to continue the chase and took the suspect into custody. The suspect who was also injured was taken to Aspirus Wausau Hospital for treatment prior to being taken to the Lincoln County Jail, where he was booked in for fleeing, resisting arrest and first degree recklessly endangering safety.

On 12/02/2023 at approximately 16:07, deputies were dispatched to a domestic dispute to a residence on French Ridge Rd. in the Town of Pine River. A Merrill man, 51, was reporting that his wife, a Merrill woman, 48, was out of control and had broken a door with a 20-pound weight. Upon arrival, deputies learned that the husband had locked himself in a room to stay away from his wife as she attempted to break down the door. The wife was arrested and transported to the Lincoln County Jail, where she was booked for domestic disorderly conduct. No injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The man requested a 72-hour no-contact to be enforced, preventing his wife from having any contact with him.

On 12/02/2023 at approximately 23:33, a deputy on patrol stopped a vehicle on STH 107 near Marc Dr. in the City of Merrill for a speeding violation. Upon making contact with the driver a Gleason man, 27, the deputy noticed signs of impairment. As a result, the driver was asked to perform a series of sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for a first offense OWI. The driver was later released to a responsible party.

On 12/03/2023, a deputy was requested to respond to the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office to speak with two men who wanted to report a violation of a court order. Upon arrival, it was learned that the two were brothers and one of the brothers was the Merrill man, 51, who reported the domestic dispute on 12/02/2023, CFS23025022. It was reported that the man’s wife, a Merrill woman, 48, had gone to the man’s brother’s house in the City of Merrill and created a disturbance. After that, they went to the house on French Ridge Rd., where the woman and her mother further caused a disturbance. Prior to going to the house, it was reported that the woman called her husband, which was in violation of a 72-hour no-contact order that resulted from the initial domestic dispute. As a result of that violation, the deputy will be requesting additional charges.
