For the Tomahawk Leader
TOMAHAWK – A favorite holiday event will to return to Tomahawk this week.
The 5th annual Hometown Christmas will be held in downtown Tomahawk on Friday, Dec. 8. This year’s theme is “Christmas Around the World.”
Hometown Christmas’s Roxanne Consolver noted that fellow organizer Mary Smith has been working her magic with downtown businesses to create this year’s theme.
The event will kick off with the Christmas Parade at 4:30 p.m. The parade, featuring ATVs, UTVs, off-road Jeeps and floats, will start on the east end of W. Wisconsin Ave., near Crossbridge Community Bank, and will make its way to the west end of the street, near Tomahawk TTT.
After the parade, from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m., downtown storefronts will feature live window displays.
An Irish Fest after party will be held at Kilroy’s Klub, 327 W. Wisconsin Ave., following the window displays. Irish stew will be available for a free will donation.
“It will be a magical evening,” Consolver said.
Parade Princess
Draya Zietlow was named 2023’s Hometown Christmas Parade Princess.
The Parade Princess contest was held from Nov. 1 through Nov. 20.
Consolver explained that the five contestants sent photos to Diamond Rock Glass Studio for a chance to win the prestigious honor. The photos were displayed at Standard Mercantile, where people could cast a vote for their favorite princess. Votes were $1.00 each.
Zietlow was ultimately named the winner. She was awarded the crown, magic wand and trophy by Santa himself at the Community Tree Lighting event on Nov. 25, and she will have the honor of riding in the Hometown Christmas parade.
Previous Parade Princesses include Hope Garske Taft and Lilly Crass.
