LAKE NOKOMIS – A local group’s donation will help promote aquatic invasive species (AIS) prevention on a Tomahawk-area lake.

During its meeting in Merrill on Tuesday, Nov. 14, the Lincoln County Board of Supervisors approved a resolution accepting a donation of $14,000.42 from Lake Nokomis Concerned Citizens (LNCC) to fund an AIS Limited Term Employee.

The resolution noted that while Lincoln County currently provides Clean Boats, Clean Waters (CBCW) programming and services aimed at AIS prevention, “this coverage is only done on weekends during the summer period.”

The additional staffing funded by LNCC will “allow Lincoln County to provide CBCW coverage on all days during (the) summer period at the Nokomis Dam Landing,” according to the resolution.

With the donation’s acceptance, additional CBCW services will be provided on Lake Nokomis in summer 2024.
