THS Drama Department’s one-act play earns accolades at State competition

For the Tomahawk Leader

GREEN BAY – The Tomahawk High School (THS) Drama Department performed its one-act play at the State competition at UW-Green Bay earlier this month and earned numerous accolades.

Director Michele Balda said that although the performance of “She Wrote, Died, Then Wrote Some More” went over time, preventing it from earning Critic’s Choice or Directing awards, one judge did award a perfect score.

“We decided we would slow down anyway to give our best performance, and we were not disappointed,” Balda stated. “The audience loved it, and the kids were so excited by the cheers from the audience during and after. It was a marvelous performance, and the kids were very emotional about and overwhelmed by the entire experience, with so many encouraging reflections towards each other about our entire season after our critique.”

Balda added that, to top it off, in addition to All-State honors as one of 36 out of the 80 schools that started the season, THS also received an Outstanding Ensemble award, which, Balda said, was “in our minds our personal Critic’s Choice.”

THS also took home an Outstanding Technical Theatre award, and Xan Sutton, Trey Morrison and Murphy Koth each earned Outstanding Acting awards.
