For the Tomahawk Leader

MERRILL – The Annual Fund Drive for St. Vincent de Paul (SVDP) Conference of Merrill is currently underway, and the conference is seeking public support to help those in Lincoln County who need emergency assistance.

In a release, SVDP said Connexus Credit Union, Sisters of Mercy of the Holy Cross, the family of Nick and Kathy Laphen and an anonymous donor have agreed to donate a total of $36,000.00 to their Annual Matching Fund Campaign.

“Thanks to these corporate donors, all gifts will double in value to benefit those in need,” SVDP stated.

“Poverty is an incredibly significant problem in Lincoln County,” said Sue Norenberg, Director of Operations. “(The) SVDP Outreach Program has provided $125,711.00 in assistance to 333 households during the past 10 months.”

The SVDP Thrift Store in downtown Merrill, which contributes all store profits to the Outreach Program has provided over $4,500.00 worth of clothing, furniture and other items to those in need.

For more information or to donate, call Norenberg at 715-539-2666, or send a donation to Society of St. Vincent de Paul, 503 S. Center Ave., Suite 2, Merrill, Wis., 54452.
