WPS expecting lower winter heating bills for customers

GREEN BAY – Wisconsin Public Service (WPS) is expecting lower heating bills for customers this winter.

In a release from Friday, Oct. 27, WPS said an analysis it conducted shows the typical residential customer will pay about $20.00 less per month this winter compared to last year. WPS noted that the analysis “assumes typical winter weather.”

The anticipated decrease is due to the company’s “proactive approach to buying and storing natural gas when prices are lower, as well as the worldwide decline of natural gas prices,” according to the release.

“WPS does not profit on the natural gas it purchases,” the release stated. “Customers pay the same price for natural gas that the company pays.”

WPS noted that it offers heating bill assistance to customers.

“The State of Wisconsin is expected to have nearly $150 million in low-income heating assistance this winter,” the release said. “Any customer concerned about their bill is encouraged to contact WPS right away to discuss bill payment options, budget billing and energy assistance.”

Customers can connect with the company 24 hours a day online, through the WPS app or by calling 800-450-7260.

WPS said customers can take steps to manage their energy use by scheduling an annual furnace tune-up, sealing gaps around windows and doors and turning down their thermostats when they are away or asleep.
