Middle school football

Hello sports fans,

We are truly blessed to have such great sports programs at the Tomahawk school. A big shout out the coaches who have made this all possible.

My grandson and his middle school football team went undefeated in two years under these great coaches. These coaches are the unsung heroes of the sports programs, spending countless hours shaping these young kids into the players they are.

Being undefeated in two years is a remarkable achievement, not only teaching them the game, but instilling sportsmanship, and the love of the game. After each game, the teams line up and shake hands, but these boys went a step further by shaking the hands of the referees. That shows class in my book.

I’m enclosing the names of these coaches: Dewey Reilly Sr., Dewey Reilly Jr., Mike Reilly, Eric Halverson, Todd Fredrickson, Jason Stromberg and Jayson Olsen. If I forgot a coach, I apologize.

Great job to all the boys in middle school. Next year these boys will be freshman. Look out, here they come.

Signed, a grateful grandpa,

Perhaps it’s time to rethink our security effort

Despite our massive “intelligence” community, we didn’t have a clue that 9/11 attack was coming. Despite our massive “intelligence” community and that of our friends in Israel, they didn’t have a clue that Hamas was about to attack them.

Perhaps it’s time to rethink our security effort. Rather than basing our security on suspicion and threats of violence and the use of violence, would we be more secure if we based our relations on trust (as in living up to our treaty obligations) and civility.

As difficult as it might be, it’s easier to say “I’m sorry,” “I understand now” or “I’m glad you can see my point of view” than to heal a bruise from a punch, a stab wound, a bullet hole or bomb.
