Middle school runners wrap up season with Tomahawk invite

TOMAHAWK – On Thursday, Oct. 5, The Tomahawk Hatchet boys’ and girls’ middle school cross country teams wrapped up their season on their home course at the Tomahawk Middle School Invite.

Coach Justin Lund said the Hatchets finished the season strong, with just about everyone having a personal career or season best.

The boys started off the day, and Brayden Kelly from Lakeland took the overall win with a time of 11:43 while securing the team title for the boys.

Leading the Hatchets in their 4th-place team result was 8th grader Joe Zastrow with a 6th-place medal, finishing in a time of 12:35. The Hatchet boys also had a number of great races by Kamron Ristau (18th), Abe Flohr (19th), Levi Cerkas (23rd), Dawson Jones (33rd), Max Childers (42nd), Zach Scott (44th), Vallyn Ott (47th) and Trip Tabbert (48th),

Team scores: Lakeland (40), Chequamegon (47), Medford (78), Tomahawk (99), Rhinelander (112) and Northland Pines (116).

The Lady Hatchets battled tough as they have all year with Lakeland and Rhinelander with Lakeland getting the slim edge by six points.

Charlee Lund closed out her 7th grade season with her 4th overall win in a row with time of 13:00 in a great battle with Emerson Rubo from Lakeland. Hallie Pierce would find her way on the podium again as a medalist for her 9th-place effort. The Hatchets also saw fantastic seasonal or personal best races by Lexi Palmer (15th), Camryn Kraklow (17th), Aliyah Nelson (18th), Autumn Pankow (27th), Giordana Cammisuli (31st), Joa Reilly (33rd), Leigha Vassar (44th), Victoria Towle (46th), Reagan Gorell (51st), Lily Meurer (58th), Lilli Marheine (59th), Lucy Nelson (60th), Savannah Reinke (65th), Alaina Stogbauer (66th) and Kortney Busterud (70th).

Team scores: Lakeland (54), Tomahawk (60), Rhinelander (65), Medford (97), Chequamegon (111), Northland Pines (122).

“This wraps up the Tomahawk Middle School cross country season,” Lund said. “The parents, coaches and athletes would all like the thank you for supporting our running program. The season concluded with a pizza party for the athletes, as well as an awards presentation in honor of all the hard work and incredible performances this year. Go Hatchets!”
