Football: Tomahawk comes out on top in defensive battle with Westfield

WESTFIELD – The Tomahawk Hatchet football team traveled to Westfield on Friday, Oct. 6 and came away with a 7-0 nonconference win.

The lone score of the game came in the second quarter, when Caleb Dickens ran for a two-yard touchdown. The following extra point attempt was successful.

Both defenses shined throughout the game, each forcing several turnovers. The Hatchets threw two interceptions, while the Pioneers threw five interceptions and lost one fumble. All five Hatchet picks were by Brayden Larson, setting a new school record.

Tomahawk limited Westfield to just 69 total yards, 66 of which came on the ground. The Hatchets tallied 196 total yards.

Brayden Larson went 3-8 through the air with two interceptions. Jonah Dickens, Caleb Dickens and Ryan Larson each caught one pass. Jonah Dickens (13 carries, 18 yards), Caleb Dickens (14 carries, 73 yards, one touchdown) and Landyn Seymour (12 carries, 46 yards) were the Hatchets’ leading rushers.

With the victory over Westfield and a forfeit win over Menomonie Indian, Tomahawk’s record improved to 5-5 (2-4 in conference).

This week’s action

For its final game of the regular season, Tomahawk will host the Clintonville Truckers at Hatchet Field on Friday, Oct. 17, with opening kickoff at 7 p.m.
