Pair of Alzheimer’s Association workshops to take place in Northwoods

For the Tomahawk Leader

NORTHERN WISCONSIN – The Alzheimer’s Association will host a pair of workshops in the Northwoods this month.

The first program, Understanding Alzheimer’s and Dementia, will be held on Tuesday, Oct. 17 at the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Oneida County, 100 Keenan St., Rhinelander, from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

The program will provide a general overview for people who are facing a diagnosis, as well as those who wish to be more informed about the disease. The workshop will explore the relationship between Alzheimer’s disease and dementia, examine what happens in a brain affected by Alzheimer’s, detail what happens in a brain affected by Alzheimer’s, identify FDA-approved treatments available to treat some symptoms, look ahead to what’s on the horizon for Alzheimer’s research and offer helpful Alzheimer’s Association and local community resources.

The second program, Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body, is offered in partnership with the ADRC of Vilas County and will be held on Monday, Oct. 23 at the Olson Memorial Library, 203 N. Main St., Eagle River, from 10:30 a.m. to 12 p.m.

“At any age, there are lifestyle habits we can adopt to help maintain or even potentially improve our health,” a release from the Alzheimer’s Association said. “These habits may also help to keep our brains healthy as we age and possibly delay the onset of cognitive decline associated with Alzheimer’s disease. To help people age well, the Alzheimer’s Association is offering the Healthy Living for Your Brain and Body program.”

The workshop will cover areas of lifestyle habits that are associated with healthy aging, including cognitive activity; physical health and exercise; diet and nutrition; and social engagement.
