Tnemec Company Inc., founded in 1921, specializes in protecting surfaces and structures from corrosion with high-performance coatings and linings. The company is one of the largest privately-held protective coatings manufacturers in North America.

“Our coatings protect surfaces from Los Angeles to Philadelphia, Shanghai to San Juan, and every order we make is delivered with the expertise of our veteran team and the history they carry with them,” Tnemec’s website states.

Each year since 2006, Tnemec has celebrated the innovative and creative uses of its coatings on water tanks with an annual Tank of the Year contest, in which tanks of all varieties from across the U.S. and Canada are nominated, and the public has the opportunity to vote for their favorite tank in the People’s Choice category.

A Tnemec committee of water tank enthusiasts then chooses 11 other finalists and considers them along with the People’s Choice to decide the official Tank of the Year.

Among this year’s nominees is Tomahawk’s navy blue and yellow design on the city’s water tower, which now reflects the School District of Tomahawk’s colors. The tower, previously light blue, was repainted this summer as part of routine maintenance.

Tomahawk joins 11 other Wisconsin communities in the competition, including Abbotsford, Beaver Dam, Rice Lake and Schofield.

Voting is open through Friday, Oct. 13. The People’s Choice winner will be announced on Monday, Oct. 16, and the Tank of the Year winner will be announced on Friday, Oct. 20.
