TMS runners take part in Medford invitational

MEDFORD – On Thursday, Sept. 28, Medford hosted several area teams for their annual cross country invitational at Medford High School.

The boys and girls middle school combined race got the meet started, and when the dust settled, the Tomahawk Middle School girls were invitational champions for the third time this season, with all five scoring runners in the top 10.

Charlee Lund was the first Hatchet girl to cross the line as the overall winner in the girls’ race in a time of 12:57. Four more Hatchets would cross the line and earn medalist honors in the top 10, including Hallie Pierce (7th), Aliyah Nelson (8th), Lexi Palmer (9th) and Camryn Kraklow (10th).

The strong Hatchet pack included Joa Reillly (18th), Giordana Cammisuli (19th), Autumn Pankow (21st), Reagan Gorell (27th), Leigha Vassar (33rd), Victoria Towle (34th), Lily Meurer (41st), Lilliana Marheine (47th), Lucy Nelson (48th), Savannah Reinke (51st) and Kortney Busterud (57th).

Team scores: Tomahawk 35, Medford 46, Marshfield 56, Ashland 105, Antigo 129.

The boys were led to a 3rd-place finish by 8th grader Joe Zastrow, who had his strongest race of the year, finishing in 8th place In a time of 12:30. The team was also supported by some great efforts from Dawson Jones (14th), Kamorn Ristau (16th), Levi Cerkas (24th), Zach Scott (36th), Tripp Tabbert (37th), Max Childers (38th) and Vallyn Ott (42nd).

Team scores: Marshfield 17, Medford 52, Tomahawk 88, Ashland 96, Antigo 116.

This week’s action

The TMS runners will wrap up their season on their home turf on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Tomahawk Elementary School playground. The first race gets underway at 4:30 p.m.
