Tomahawk falls to Crivitz in double overtime heartbreaker

TOMAHAWK – The Tomahawk Hatchet football team hosted Crivitz at Hatchet Field on Friday, Sept. 22 and fell by a score of 38-30 in double overtime.

The Hatchets struck first on a Caleb Dickens five-yard touchdown run and successful extra point in the first quarter. The Hatchets added a field goal in the second quarter, but the Wolverines responded with a touchdown and extra point before the half. Tomahawk took a 10-7 lead into the locker room.

In the third quarter, Hatchet quarterback Rex Reilly ran for a 40-yard score, followed by an extra point. Crivitz struck back with seven points of their own in the quarter. The fourth quarter saw Tomahawk add seven points on a 76-yard touchdown pass from Brayden Larson to Jonah Dickens and extra point. The Wolverines subsequently scored ten points to send the game into overtime.

Tomahawk started with the ball in overtime and scored on a three-yard scamper from Reilly. The extra point attempted was no good. Crivitz scored a touchdown but failed to convert the extra point, and after Tomahawk turned the ball over on downs, the Wolverines scored a touchdown and forced another Tomahawk turnover on downs to seal the win.

Reilly went 7-12 through the air with 72 yards and one interception. Brayden Larson completed three of seven attempts for 91 yards and a touchdown. The Hatchets spread the ball around, with Caleb Dickens, Jonah Dickens, Brayden Larson and Zach Germano hauling in catches.

On the ground, Reilly had 117 yards and two touchdowns on 20 carries. Brayden Larson logged 50 yards on eight attempts, and Caleb Dickens had seven rushes for 21 yards and a touchdown.

The Hatchets racked up 366 total yards in the game, while Crivitz tallied 387. There were 20 penalties (Tomahawk seven for 75 yards, Crivitz 13 for 103), and Tomahawk had the only turnover.

On Friday, Sept. 29, the Hatchets will host Coleman in a matchup that gets underway at 7 p.m.
