Volleyball: Tomahawk takes down Lakeland, goes 2-1 in Antigo tourney

MINOCQUA – The Tomahawk Hatchet volleyball team earned a win over a conference rival and took two of three games in a tournament last week.

Lakeland

The Tomahawk spikers traveled to Lakeland Union High School in Minocqua on Tuesday, Sept. 12 and came away with a hard-earned 3-2 win by scores of 23-25, 25-22, 17-25, 28-26 and 15-9.

Chloe Buckwalter ended the night with 29 assists and 16 digs, while Macy Jankiewicz had 13 kills, five blocks and two aces. Claire Albert had two aces, eight kills and 12 digs; Emerson Lange tallied five aces and 15 digs; and Sienna Calkins ended the night with nine kills and six blocks.

Antigo tournament

On Saturday, Sept. 16, the Hatchets went 2-1 in a tournament in Antigo, earning wins over Northland Pines (25-21, 25-16, 25-16) and Rhinelander  (25-15, 25-11, 25-18) and falling to Medford (22-25, 26-24, 25-15, 25-19).

Stats vs. Medford: Buckwalter, 25 assists, eight digs, one ace; Samantha Gebauer, 20 digs, one ace; Jankiewicz, nine kills, four blocks; Siennah Calkins, seven kills, one block; Emerson Lange, 10 digs, five kills, two aces.

Stats vs. Pines: Buckwalter, 29 assists, nine digs, one ace; Calkins, 12 kills; Jankiewicz, eight kills, two aces, one block; Samantha Gebauer, 17 digs.

Stats vs. Rhinelander: Buckwalter, 24 assists, two aces; Gebauer, 18 digs, one ace; Albert, 13 digs, eight kills, one ace; Calkins, nine kills.

This week’s action

Tomahawk is slated to host Mosinee at the Hatchet Fieldhouse on Tuesday, Sept. 19.

On Thursday, Sept. 21, a quad with Newman, Prentice and Antigo will be held at the Fieldhouse at 5 p.m.
