Lincoln County Sheriff’s Report: Sept. 4, 2023

As reported by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office Monday, Sept. 4:

Over the week, our Lincoln County 911 Center received ten 911 nuisance calls/hang ups. The Lincoln County Deputies pulled 75 traffic stops, with five resulting in OWI convictions.

Within the county this week, there were 14 car vs. animal collisions.

On 08/30/2023 at approximately 02:00, Lincoln County 911 Center received a call stating someone heard an accident happen in the area of W8800 State Rd. 86, in the Township of Tomahawk after watching a car pass their house and hearing a car horn. Lincoln County Sheriff Deputy and Tomahawk EMS responded to the scene. Lincoln County Deputy arrived on scene to observe the vehicle still in motion. The deputy activated her emergency lights and sirens before they came to a complete stop. The deputy made contact with the driver, a male, 69, from Tomahawk, who was showing signs of impairment. The driver was placed through a series of field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for a first offense OWI violation.

On 08/30/2023 at approximately 02:30, in the area of U.S. Hwy. 51 and Lincoln Dr. in the Township of Merrill, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a routine traffic stop. The deputy observed the vehicle traveling under the posted speed limit and weaving over the fog line. The deputy made contact with the driver, a male, 45, from Watertown, who was showing signs of impairment. The driver was placed through a series of field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for fourth OWI violation, an outstanding warrant and bail jumping.

On 09/01/2023 at approximately 08:00, Lincoln County Dispatch received a call in the area of N4500 County Rd. JJ in the Township of Merrill for a male lying on the ground unconscious. Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputies responded to the scene to find a Merrill man, 36, lying between a truck and a mailbox. When the male finally came to, he advised deputies he did not want EMS. Deputies advised the male was showing signs of impairment. Upon further investigation, the male had several open bonds with a no drink restriction on them. Deputies arrested the male and transported him to Merrill Aspirus Hospital for medical clearance, then to the Lincoln County Jail. The male was arrested for felony bail jumping x4.

On 09/01/2023 at approximately 18:00, in the area of County Rd. S and Skanawan Lake Rd. in the Township of Skanawan, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a routine traffic stop of an ATV. Lincoln County Deputy pulled over a male, 25, from Tomahawk, for doing twice over the posted speed limit. The Lincoln County Deputy trained as a Drug Recognition Expert conducted advanced sobriety testing. As a result of those tests, he was arrested for first UTV OWI violation and possession of THC. Driver was also cited for speeding. Driver was then transported to the Tomahawk Aspirus Hospital for medical clearance then to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 09/01/2023 at approximately 18:30, Lincoln County 911 Center received a call in the area of W5700 Tug Lake Ave. in the Township of Rock Falls of a motorcycle accident. Merrill Fire Department, Merrill EMS and Lincoln County Deputies all responded to the scene. Once on scene, deputies advised that the patient, a male, 43, from Merrill, was standing up and talking. Patient was not wearing a helmet, leather or any type of motorcycle gear. Patient advised he had swerved to miss a deer. Patient was transported by Merrill EMS to Wausau Aspirus Hospital. Deputies stood by until the tow truck was able to remove the motorcycle from the roadway. Nothing further.

On 09/02/2023 at approximately 02:30 in the area of 3300 E. Main St. in the City of Merrill, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a routine traffic stop. The deputy pulled over a male, 31, from Merrill, for doing 111 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. The Lincoln County Deputy placed the driver through a series of field sobriety tests, and as a result of those tests, he was arrested for second OWI violation and speed. The driver was transported to Merrill Aspirus Hospital for medical clearance, then was transferred to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 09/03/2023 at approximately 00:00, Lincoln County 911 Center received a call for the area of N10800 County Rd. YY, in the Township of Somo for a one-car vehicle accident with a male patient injured. Tomahawk EMS, Tomahawk Fire Department, Lincoln County Deputies, Merrill EMS and LifeLink III all responded to this call. Once arrived on scene it was observed that the patient was an Irma man, 61. Deputies on scene provided medical care to the patient’s wounds until EMS arrived. EMS then turned the patient over to LifeLink III for further care. Impairment by alcohol was not considered a factor. Nothing further.

On 09/03/2023 at approximately 03:50, in the area of U.S. Hwy. 51 and Tamarack Ln. in the Township of Skanawan, a Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a routine traffic stop. Lincoln County Deputy pulled over a male, 22, from Phillips, for doing 99 MPH in a 65 MPH zone. The Lincoln County Deputy, trained as a Drug Recognition Expert, conducted advanced sobriety testing. As a result of those tests, he was arrested for first OWI violation and cited for speed. Driver was transported to the Merrill Aspirus Hospital for medical clearance then to the Lincoln County Jail.

On 09/03/2023 at approximately 17:30, Lincoln County 9-1-1 Center received a call about a vehicle rollover near Bear Trail Rd. and High Lake Rd. in the Township of Harrison. A female, 72, from Brookfield, was driving with a male, 75, from Milwaukee. Russell First Responders, Russell Fire Department, Tomahawk EMS and Lincoln County Deputies responded to the scene. Upon arrival, both occupants were out of the vehicle that rolled down an embankment. Both occupants sustained minor injuries and were not transported to the hospital. Vehicle was removed by Rod’s Towing Company. Nothing further.  

On 09/03/2023 at approximately 19:00, in the area of State Rd. 86 and Island View Dr. in the Township of Tomahawk, Lincoln County Sheriff’s Deputy pulled a routine traffic stop. Lincoln County Deputy pulled over a male, 68, from Tomahawk, for speeding. The Lincoln County Deputy, trained as a Drug Recognition Expert, conducted advanced sobriety testing. As a result of those tests, he was arrested for first OWI violation and speeding. Driver was then transported to the Tomahawk Aspirus Hospital for medical clearance then released to a responsible party. Nothing further.
