Ernest “Ernie” J. Winker, age 84, of Tomahawk, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 8, 2023, at the Veterans Home in King, Wis. He was born July 31, 1938, in Tomahawk, to the late Art and Judy (July) Winker.
Ernie owned and operated Ernie’s Woodworking and Home Maintenance for many years as well as opening and closing numerous cottages in the spring and fall while also providing snow plowing services. He was a Korean War veteran, a member of the American Legion Post 93, and the Tomahawk Lions Club where he served as former president. Ernie also served as president of the Members Council (Olson and Moses Hall) at the Veterans Home in King.
Survivors include his son, Paul (Wendy) Winker; his daughter, Laura (Joseph) Haring; his grandchildren, Shawn, Paul, Holley, and Kayleigh; his great-grandchild, Hadleigh; and his siblings, Pat Mallek, Elaine Devine, Ray Winker, Mac Winker, Sharon Garver, Fran Winker, and Tom Winker. He is further survived by many extended family and friends.
A celebration of Ernie’s life will be held on Thursday, June 22, 2023, from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Generations Funeral Home, Tomahawk, and will conclude with military honors. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Building Fund at the American Legion Post 93, 327 W. Wisconsin Avenue, Tomahawk. Generations Funeral Home & Crematory is assisting the family.
