Four Hatchet golfers named All-State Academic honorees

For the Tomahawk Leader

TOMAHAWK – The Golf Coaches Association of Wisconsin (GCAW) announced on Tuesday, June 13 that four members of the 2023 Tomahawk Hatchet golf team were named All-State Academic honorees.

Sawyer Hanna, Austin Lamer, Drew Albert and Carson Childers were among 432 students from 125 high schools to receive the honor.

Students are submitted by GCAW coaches if they attain a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of at least 3.25, participate in at least 75% of their team’s varsity matches and are a sophomore, junior or senior.

GCAW said the recognized student-athletes had an average GPA of 3.740 and “served as a great example to others, proving that athletic and academic successes are not mutually exclusive.”

“For you seniors, best of luck as you prepare for your new challenges after high school,” GCAW stated. “We trust that golf has taught you valuable lessons that you will always be able to draw upon as you face future challenges. For the returning underclassmen, we hope that you will continue pursuing golf, while at the same time maintaining the high academic standards that you have set for yourselves in the classroom.”

The GCAW was formed by high school golf coaches in 1986 to help build and enhance Wisconsin’s reputation for developing quality junior players by promoting golf in schools and communities.
