Joan M. “Ma Clint” Bowman, age 92, of Tomahawk, passed away on Thursday, May 18, 2023 at Milestone Senior Living Center in Tomahawk. Joan fought a most courageous battle with Alzheimer’s for the last 17 years. Being the true fighter she was, she never let it dull her shine. “The mind may not remember, but the heart will never forget.”

She was born June 16, 1930 in Chicago, Ill., to the late Frank and Margaret (Garrity) Laulette. She was later married to Clint A. Bowman Jr. on June 3, 1960 in Waukegan, Ill. He passed away in 1997.

Joan had owned and operated Plaster Heaven in Schaumberg, Ill. The family vacationed in Tomahawk in the 1960s and moved to the area permanently in 1978. It was always Joan and Clint’s dream to own a bar and they fulfilled that dream when they opened Clint’s Castle in Tomahawk. They were affectionately known as Ma and Pa Clint, and they owned and operated Clint’s Castle for 19 years.

She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Tomahawk. She loved dancing and listening to music at festive parties with all her extended family. She enjoyed cooking, and spending time at her cabin on the Wisconsin River.

She is survived by three children. She was the most special loving Granny to 23 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-great-grandchildren. She is further survived by very special nieces, nephews and their children, along with many beloved friends and customers.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Clinton A. Bowman Jr., her son, Larry Anthes, two sisters, Mary “Fra” Wickland, and Margaret “Peggy” Slove.

Private Traditional Graveside services for Joan “Ma Clint” Bowman will take place on Friday, June 16, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery in Tomahawk. A Celebration of Life for Ma Clint will take place on Friday, June 16 from 5 p.m. to ? at the Corner Pub in Tomahawk (the former Clint’s Castle). Generations Funeral Home & Crematory, Tomahawk, is assisting the family. View Joan’s obituary and leave online condolences at www.generationsfuneral.com.
