Lincoln County Veterans Service Office announces Memorial Day events

LINCOLN COUNTY – The Lincoln County Veterans Service Office (LCVSO), on Friday, May 12, announced Memorial Day events slated to take place throughout Lincoln County, including those in the Tomahawk area.

Tomahawk-area ceremonies

Memorial Day events and ceremonies taking place in the Tomahawk area are as follows:

  • American Legion Post 93, Tomahawk Middle School Red, White and Blue Day Program, Thursday, May 25, 1:30 p.m.
  • American Legion Post 93 and VFW Post 2687, cupcakes to honor veterans, Trig’s, 662 N. 4th St., Friday, May 26, 8 a.m. Cupcakes will be available for sale upon entering the store and can be paid for at the check-out counters. All proceeds from the sales will be distributed to the Wisconsin VA hospitals.
  • Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard, Prairie Rapids Cemetery, Saturday, May 27, 8:30 a.m. Free breakfast will be served at the Prairie Rapids Town Hall immediately following the ceremony.
  • Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard, Union Grove Cemetery, Harshaw, Saturday, May 27, 11 a.m. Free luncheon to follow at Cassian Town Hall. For more information, contact Rick at 715-612-0332.

  • Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard, Calvary Cemetery, Tomahawk, Monday, May 29, 11:15 a.m.
  • Tomahawk Area Veterans Honor Guard, Oak Hill Cemetery, Town of Skanawan, Monday, May 29, 11:45 a.m.

Tomahawk Honor Guard placing flags

The Tomahawk Honor Guard will be placing flags in the flag holders of veterans’ graves at St. Augustine, Oak Hill, Greenwood, Calvary, Somo, Union Congregational and Prairie Rapids cemeteries on Monday, May 22 and will remove them the week after Memorial Day. 

“We ask relatives and friends of veterans buried in Lincoln County cemeteries to determine whether the graves are marked with a flag and flag holder,” LCVSO said.

If a grave is not marked with a flag/holder, call LCVSO at 715-539-1083 to make arraignments to pick up a flag and holder.
