Golf: Tomahawk competes in Marathon, Antigo, Rhinelander

MARATHON – The Tomahawk Hatchet golf team took part in several meets last week.

Marathon

The Hatchet golfers were at Pine Valley Golf Course in Marathon on Tuesday, May 3, where they finished in seventh place out of nine teams.

Owen Dickrell’s eight pars and single birdie helped him finish with a score of 84 strokes, while Sawyer Hanna made five pars on his way to 88. Austin Lamer ended the day with a 93, knocking in three for par and one for birdie. Carson Childers finished with one par and a score of 108, and Caiden Reichelt ended the day with a 119.

Coach Garth Gerstenberger said the wind was a “huge factor” for all the golfers.

“The kids did a great job of staying focused on the course,” he stated.

Team scores:  Medford, 349; Mosinee, 354; Rhinelander, 354; Newman, 356; Prentice, 367; Marathon, 370; Tomahawk, 373; Assumption, 403; Hurley, 421.

Antigo

On Thursday, May 4, the Hatchets competed at Riverview Golf Course in Antigo and came away with a second-place finish.

Hanna was the top shooter for Tomahawk, finishing the day with a score of 43 strokes. Reichelt and Dickrell each shot a 48, Albert ended with a 50, Childers shot a 52 and Massa finished with a 55.

JV at Rhinelander

The JV Hatchet golfers traveled to Northwood Golf Course in Rhinelander on Friday, May 5 and finished in seventh place.

Individual Hatchet scores: Drew Albert, 53; Riley Massa, 62; Quentin Susa, 70; Sophie Kiser, 77; Lydia Ziert, 78.

Team scores: Lakeland, 192; Mosinee, 217; Antigo, 222; Medford, 225; Rhinelander, 232; Northland Pines, 240; Tomahawk, 262.

This week’s action

Tomahawk’s varsity golfers have a busy schedule this week, with meets slated to be held in Rhinelander on Monday, May 8; Bass Lake Country Club north of Antigo on Tuesday, May 9; and Eagle River on Friday, May 12.

The JV squad is scheduled to head to Mosinee on Tuesday, May 9, and will travel to Eagle River on Thursday, May 11 and Rhinelander on Friday, May 12.
