Alzheimer’s Association hosting program to help caregivers understand dementia-related behaviors

For the Tomahawk Leader

RHINELANDER – The Alzheimer’s Association is slated to host a program this month designed to help caregivers decipher dementia-related behaviors and determine how to best respond.

The Understanding and Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors workshop will be held at the Aging and Disability Resource Center (ADRC) of Oneida County, 100 W. Keenan St., Rhinelander, on Tuesday, May 16 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

“As dementia progresses, the person with the disease often starts to exhibit new behaviors that can be confusing for a caregiver,” a release from the Alzheimer’s Association said. “Behavior is a powerful form of communication and is one of the primary ways people living with dementia communicate their needs as the ability to use words is lost.”

During the workshop, participants will learn about common triggers for behaviors associated with dementia, strategies to help manage common behavioral challenges of dementia and how to decode behavioral messages, as well as the Alzheimer’s Association and services through the local ADRC.

“Through practical information, resources and interviews with experts, this program will help caregivers to address the challenges of dementia-related behavior,” the Alzheimer’s Association stated.

Registration for the program is requested. To register, or for more information, contact Julie at 715-352-4091 or [email protected]. Register online at www.bit.ly/3p3HjRr.
